YBB 2016 Day 9

Student 5: “More interesting was the Embrace the Spotlight performance. The story about the cancer girl and boy was depressing. It was creative, but depressing. The best parts, though, were the debates. Rice vs. noodles, despite being a very ridiculous topic, was delivered with surprising professionalism (by the way, Noodles totally won that one). The other debate was squat toilets vs. sitting toilets. It degenerated rather quickly. I think everyone fell apart after one of the guys asked, “So you like having a hole in your bathroom?” Everyone fell apart after that. Also, one more thing: Chinese Mafia is a really, really fun card game.”

Student 7: “Today was the last day of Embrace the Spotlight, and working with these kids for the last couple of days and forming a close bond with some of the students makes me think I’m really going to miss all of them. They are all very bright students and I was honestly so shocked to find out how much English they knew. They all also did really well reading and writing the passages they performed during the showcase. Although I wish we spent more time trying to get them to be less shy and more open with sharing all of their writing or saying an answer to a question we asked in class.”

Hello! My name is Justin Zhou. During my 2016 Summer Internship at C&T, my job was to type up and organize journals hand-written by 2016 YBB members.  As a YBB 2014 member and 2015 classroom leader, their writings brought fond memories back. With that nostalgic feeling in mind, I came across the idea of creating the “YBB Experiences” page where YBB members can share their wonderful experiences with others. Quickly, I edited the journals and have started to post some excerpts of journals in the “YBB Experiences” page, showcasing the fun for both old members as well as prospective ones.  As a senior high school student going college in 2017, I hope someone will join this effort continuing to enrich the contents of the page.
